Juliette Kovács
One's Belief
Juliette Kovács is a Belgian-French painter who lives and works in Brussels. She joined the Royal Academy of Fine Arts at 14 and graduated in painting from La Cambre (ENSAV) in 2026.
Her work looks at transmission, inheritance and the archive, with the logic of tapestry: a motif, a gesture, a support. She has shown in Belgium and Switzerland and won the Des Cressonières and Fondation Carrefour des Arts prize.
The exhibition
Juliette Kovács starts from preparatory drawings by major male artists of Western art history. In tapestry these are cartoons: models that guide the weaver. She enlarges them, breaks them into fragments and moves them.
One's Belief is the first canvas of her series Subject Matters. From the pavement it reads as an image. Look longer and it becomes process: tape, oil, raw pigment, traces of earlier work. The archive, here, is a material that can be recomposed.
